Legislative & Regulatory Issues

CalDerm serves as the "boots on the ground" team at the state Capitol in Sacramento, monitoring all legislative and regulatory activity that impacts Dermatology and the House of Medicine. Each year, thousands of legislative bills are introduced and CalDerm has its finger on the pulse of these issues, following bills through the various committees and hearings, ensuring that Dermatology has a seat at the policy-making table.

    Medical Student Committee Liaison Application

CalDerm is seeking enthusiastic and committed first-, second-, or third-year medical students to serve as Medical Student Committee Liaisons. In this role, students will work directly with a CalDerm committee chair to support the work of the committee and contribute to the advancement of dermatology in California. This is a unique opportunity to engage meaningfully with dermatology leaders across the state, gain insight into organized medicine and advocacy, and develop lasting professional connections.

The position offers a chance to work one-on-one with the chair of a CalDerm committee and gain firsthand experience in how a state dermatology society operates—from policy and education to outreach and leadership.

The position requires a 1.5 year commitment through September 2026, with an average time commitment of approximately 5 hours per week—though workloads may vary depending on committee needs. Expectations include attending committee meetings, which are generally held quarterly but may occur more frequently. These meetings are often scheduled in the evenings, outside of standard business hours.

This role can be fulfilled virtually, and applicants located in the Pacific Time Zone are preferred to help facilitate communication and scheduling.
